The aim of this working group is to develop guidelines for institutional reform to maximise the impact of interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) in the African region to improve health outcomes and strengthen systems for health.

Effective IPECP is needed if Universal Health Coverage is to be achieved, and institutional reform is needed to maximise the impact of IPECP. Policy makers, statutory boards, institutions training the health workforce and health care service providers need guidelines on how to reform institutions to facilitate IPECP. Instructional reform should go hand in hand with institutional reform to maximise efforts to improve health outcomes and strengthen systems for health through IPECP.

The AfrIPEN Policy Development working group is currently collaborating with Interprofessional.Global’s Policy Development Working Group to:

1. Gather documents from countries relating to IPECP policy, accreditation and assessment.
2. Update the WHO Framework for IPECP (2010) and the Sydney Declaration (2010)

We are thus calling upon Collaborators from each country in the African region to join the Policy Working Group helping us gather these documents and to contribute to the global effort to update the WHO Framework for IPECP (2010) and the Sydney Declaration (2010)

Once this is done, we will

1. Customise the updated WHO Framework for IPECP and Sydney Declaration for the Africa Region, if necessary.
2. Identify stakeholders that will benefit from these Guidelines to inform policies facilitating IPECP
3. Finalise and distribute these Guidelines
