Projects Capacity Building

Empowering the Future of Interprofessional Education: Building Student Leaders, Strengthening Academia, and Advancing Clinician Training.

The Capacity Building focus area develops and strengthens interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) across Africa by investing in students, academics, and clinicians. This initiative fosters leadership, professional development, and collaboration through three key working groups:

πŸŽ“ Student Activities – AfrIPEN is establishing AfrIPENsils, an IPECP African student group with representatives from various universities. The chairperson of this group will join the AfrIPEN board, ensuring student voices are included in decision-making. Recruitment will take place through roadshows at universities during orientation weeks. Additionally, AfrIPEN aims to build a support network by creating a database of supervisors and examiners with expertise in IPECP.

πŸ“’ Academic Workshops & Webinars – This group promotes external and internal capacity-building workshops. AfrIPEN HEIs are encouraged to communicate their IPE activities for wider dissemination. AfrIPEN hosts at least one academic workshop or webinar per term, including collaborations like the Interprofessional.Global – Global CafΓ©. A structured calendar of workshops will be created, with regular communication to encourage participation.

🩺 Clinician Training – To enhance interprofessional collaborative practice, AfrIPEN is developing training modules based on IPEC competencies. UWC will launch an IPE supervision short course, along with an introductory IPE short course. AfrIPEN members are encouraged to assist with the development and co-teaching of these courses.

Join this focus area to build the next generation of IPE leaders, enhance academic collaboration, and equip clinicians with essential IPE skills!
