Strengthening Global Impact: Advancing Interprofessional Education Through Policy, Recruitment, and Implementation

AfrIPEN is committed to expanding its global influence by strengthening membership, policy integration, and the formalization of interprofessional education (IPE) frameworks across Africa. Through strategic partnerships and active engagement in key global and regional forums, AfrIPEN ensures that African perspectives on IPE and collaborative practice (IPECP) are well represented on the global stage.

1. Membership & Recruitment

To grow AfrIPEN’s network, we are developing a comprehensive recruitment strategy, ensuring representation across all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). A list of key conferences and events for 2025 is being compiled, where resource packs will be distributed to raise awareness and encourage new members to join. Collaboration with student councils is a priority to engage the next generation of IPE leaders.

2. Policy Integration

AfrIPEN is actively shaping the future of health professions education policy. Our Chair is serving on the Interprofessional.Global (IPR.G) Knowledge Mobilization and Policy Advocacy Committee, ensuring that AfrIPEN remains at the forefront of policy development. By aligning our working groups with global best practices and participating in strategic forums and committees, we continue to drive meaningful change in healthcare education and practice.

3. Formalising Implementation Processes

AfrIPEN is taking significant steps to solidify the integration of IPE into health professions education and healthcare systems across Africa. Recently, we submitted an abstract for a book chapter that formalizes frameworks for embedding IPE into curricula and practice. This milestone contributes to establishing structured guidelines that will ensure long-term sustainability of IPE within African health education and service delivery.

Through these efforts, AfrIPEN is expanding its impact, fostering a robust network, and ensuring that interprofessional collaboration remains a cornerstone of health professions education in Africa.
